Dim Sum Heaven, London

Small bite-size portions are my favourite way to try new dishes. I never say no to a delicious dim sum date. After rather successful shopping in Chinatown (read more about it here), I decided to return day after and have lunch in Little Penang. You can find this restaurant very easily  in Chinatown  as they have distinctive green sign and menu which shows you variety of food (18 Gerrard Street, London W1D 6JF). Little Penang offers traditional Malaysian food, check menu yourself.

I started with rather adventurous for me carrot juice with soya milk drink. I have funny memories with soya milk so I was not sure but with carrot juice it worked well. I have to find a recipe to make one at home.

I have to say that our waitress was lovely and I did not feel rushed asking for her advice. She knew exactly what ingredients are used for each dish I asked for, and gave her recommendations. I really like when people share their knowledge without making others feel bad that they might not know something. Carrot juice and soya milk was one of them, and even though I might not be convinced at the beginning second and third sip proven me wrong!

Pan Fried Turnip Cakes with Ham
I tried my best to remember all of the names and match them correctly with the dish. However I am not going to be surprised if there is a mistake or two! Apologies in advance!

I am guilty of eating with my eyes. At the end of our feast I was struggling!

Welk in Satay Sauce
When I ordered well I had no idea what to expect, I did not even know what welk is. Whelk is a sea snail so maybe it was a spelling mistake in the menu. I could compare texture to a mushrooms. It was one of my top three choices.

Minced Prawn and Pork Dumplings
I tried my first dim sum in Boston with my Chinese friends, that knowing what tastes to expect were very fussy and critical. I wonder what would they think of the Little Penang.

BBQ Roast Pork Cheung Fun
Something I ordered without knowing what it really is. Quite frankly rather often I order things instinctively and randomly. The same case was with this and it was a spot on choice! My number one!
Stuffing my face with food! So good, I had to try everything!

Dim Sum London
Omnomom! I thought that around 10 dishes for two would be just right. However I was so wrong! I think easily 6 would be sufficient. I expected the bill to be rather high but again I was pleasantly surprised.

Next time I am in London, I will be back for more at Little Penang!

Do you like dim sum?

  1. Yum! All the food looks amazing! China Town is a place I always head to for Chinese food, can't remember the name of the last restaurant we went to but it was really nice. When ordering small dishes I always over order too as I think that it's never enough :D xx
