Dream Wedding vs Budget

Wedding Planning Spreadsheet Wedding Blogger

There is nothing wrong in wanting your special day to be… extraordinary. If you are not an event planner keeping track of everything budget wise can be slightly overwhelming. I have to admit that at the beginning the amount of work behind the scenes was terrifying.

I am not going to tell you here what is the best or the right amount to pay for a wedding. Deciding what budget is the right budget for your financial abilities and wedding expectations is a very individual process.  Do not let anyone tell you what amount is right. The wedding industry is a money making machine and I am telling you this from the perspective of not only a bride but also as someone who was working for the industry in the past.

Since we agreed that we still are still working on getting a private jet in my post about Wedding at Home or Abroad, I will also assume that we should be quite cautious with where our money is going to end up. To help myself and you with organisation I have created an Excel Wedding Budget Planner because who does not love spreadsheets to keep us on track! It helps to organise my wedding and keep the budget under control. You can download it here

How does it work?
Wedding Planning Spreadsheet Wedding Blogger

Before I even started contacting vendors I decided what I am willing to pay for each service and noted it in the Budget section. Actual Cost section is there to help you to be on top of an actual costs and let you know when you are over the set budget. It is not the most exciting part of planning the wedding but it will save you a few grey hair if you are still trying to save up for the big day. If you are under  or over your budget a useful info will pop up in Over Budget section. This helps to manage finances and think about the costs not only when it comes to paying but prior that.

I knew that for some services I am willing to pay more than my estimated budget if needed so next the sections Actual Cost and Over Budget proved to be very useful. I could easily see in what areas I am way over my budget and where I saved money.

Next cell is to note how much there is still to pay and how much you already have paid as a deposit. Payment Deadline and Days Until Deadline are useful to know if you are still on track with savings.

On the right hand side you will find:

Days until the wedding date is easily my favourite part of this wedding budget spreadsheet. The dates should be written in format DD/MM/YYYY and in a second you will know how many days until you will be Mrs.

  1. It's such a good idea to budget and note down all expenses with weddings so you can keep track - everything can add up to crazy amounts! x

  2. WOW! this is so useful! a lot of my friends are getting married, and something like this would really help them out. I mean, i have a friend getting married this week, and another in january. then another in two months, and another in 4 months. I think I'm going to send them a link to your blog post! Excellent job, and so organized!

  3. What a great tracker! My fiance and I are in the process of planning our wedding and we are always keeping a budget in mind. I started posting on my wedding process because it has become a form of therapy for me to stay sane during the planning:)

  5. We had our wedding here and couldn’t have asked for anything more than what we got with the chef and staff. The food at NYC wedding venues was amazing and my family is still raving about how great it was. The staff was so on top of everything.
