During the past few weeks I have been using a non contact sleep sensor, offered to me from the Resmed S+ team. I think that a little bird must have told them that my Fitbit had decided to stop working after only two months using it. That would be the end of my adventure with them.
My sensor arrived in a gorgeous deep blue box with everything I needed inside: instruction, sensor, and charger. I always pay a lot of attention to packaging because for me it is a huge part of the experience. Pretty packaging just increases my anticipation of using the gift. The devil is in the detail as they say.
S+ connects with its companion app via Bluetooth. A LED light let’s you know if the sensor has been connected. After a quick set up and answering a few questions such as current sleeping pattern, sleeping aids, lifestyle, and it was ready to go. It took me less than 10 minutes to set everything up.
I really cannot say how S+ knows when I am asleep but it works and tracks me, rather than my fiancé; who luckily is always asleep before me (that’s how I know the sensor is tracking me). That’s quite impressive especially that we both are quite fidgety sleepers.
The sleeping sensor calculates the time when you are awake and the different phases of sleep you are in, which it uses to suggest sleep improvements. S+ also emits relaxing sounds whilst I am falling asleep; ethereal, drift, and twilight are my favourite. There is also an option to get off your chest all ‘To Do’ thoughts for day after and record it.
The only thing I am not sure about is that the software has to stay on during the night. Syncing the data from the device at the end of the session would be a really good alternative. Other than that I have been rather impressed so far.
If not for the device, which I am very grateful I had the chance to try out, I would have never worked out that most of the nights I enter deep sleep for less than 37 minutes a night say what?!?!. I am going to work on my sleep quality with a little help from S+. It will be beneficial for my health especially with an intensive schedule I have lately.
Where can you find S+?
What improved your sleep?
