Surprise Trip to Malta | Honeymoon

The beginning of the honeymoon started with the alarm clock taking a break and not waking us up for our flight to Sicily. You know that feeling when you know something is wrong because you have woken up slightly too refreshed? That is exactly the feeling both of us felt on Monday morning. The irony of the situation is that we woke up at the same time, the time that our plane was taking off to stunning Sicily.

Instead of panicking that we would be stuck in Katowice, Poland we had a lay in (as you do in a situation like this) and started to search for flights to Sicily. This method proved to be too expensive, even for optimistic and carefree newlyweds without thousands in their accounts.

Let’s do it another way, I thought and three hours later we were on a flight too... Malta. Did I ever consider going to Malta? I have to be very honest here that the answer was 'No'. But when Malta is calling or when you find reasonably priced ticket you do not refuse.

Rather than apathetically mopping around the airport and thinking of unreliability of Galaxy S6 phone for next 7 hours hoping for sun and good food we decided to stroll around the capitol, Valletta. Bingo!

The city centre was only around 45 minutes away via public transport and the cost of a one way ticket was under 3 euro, if I remember correctly. Our suitcases were small and light enough, although fully packed, to carry with us so we did not have to worry about storage. Packing light has definitely a few pros.

First stop, food – we picked the restaurant purely on an occasional meal deal and colourful tables outside with an image of a woman, which reminded me of one of my favourite painters, Frida. I am pretty sure it suppose to be her but the more I was looking the less convinced I was.

Before we knew it our short stay in Malta had come to an end and we headed back to the airport, but first ice cream, there is always time for ice cream. And time to take one extra photo to share with you.

As we were leaving I had a feeling that this would not be my last time in Malta.

Did you have a surprise destination whilst travelling? Where was it?

    1. That's what I thought, but the more I looked at it the less similar the picture was to Frida. Maybe it was just because I started to look at fragments of image rather than looking at it as a whole. Love Iga x

  5. Can't believe I'm just reading this now but I have been to the restaurant you found with the Frida Kahlo inspired tables! I ended up there for drinks with some friends from Malta when I visited this summer - crazy how we both ended up at the same place in a (fairly) big city haha. Catching up with the rest of your posts now 💕 x
