Quick Guide to Sparty!

Sparty Budapest UK Travel Blog Iga Berry

What do you do when you are on your honeymoon? A variety of things and the Sparty in Szechenyi Baths were one of them for us!

Szechenyi Baths is the biggest of the natural hot spring spa baths in Europe and opened in 1913. During the day they are a relaxing place where you can enjoy the hot water, go for a massage, or spend some time in sauna. During the night they are an exciting party venue, a spa party, a Sparty.

Budapest loves a good party and so do I time to time so it was no brainer for me when I noticed that there were still tickets available for Sparty; I knew that they will be mine. In a few minutes I was the happy owner of a two premium plus ticket which means I would get access to a locker, a branded towel because even someone with sales and marketing experience loves a bit of overpriced merchandising time to timea bag, and two coupons for either cocktails or beer; this is per ticket. It was a quick decision because I knew that there was only a limited number of people that can attend and I wanted to be one of them.

Ready to party and into the entrance hall I went. I was given a wristband that opens and closed my locker. The wristband is really great as it meant that I did not have to worry about losing my key, which let’s face it I would lose otherwise. We were give our drinks card, provided by Szechenyi Baths, which we topped up with money and were now ready to party. The drinks card allows you pay for drinks while in the Baths, this is great as it means you do not carry cash into the spa with you; this is also the only payment method for drinks. If you top-up too much don’t worry as whatever you don’t spend is refunded at the end of the night, so it is always worth double check.

I wish I had my flip flops with me because walking around after on the slippery floor was a challenge.
It was early July so the start of the night was warm and sitting in a hot bath under the stars with music playing, laser and video effects on the walls, with a cocktail in hand was incredible! Later on we could feel that the night got chilly so having a bathrobe would be ideal! However, I cannot complain because as long as I stayed in the water I was warm.

Who is this event for?

Party lovers!
What can you rent from Szechenyi Baths?
Simple Bath Sheet
Towel
Bathrobe
Swimwear (women & men)

What would I suggest to take with you?
Flip flops
Towel
Waterproof camera
Shower Gel for a quick wash after the party

Would I recommend it for someone who cannot swim?

There is a lifeguard on duty, actually quite a few, but I still would not recommend it for someone who cannot swim especially if you want to be in the middle of a whirlpool after having a drink. The party does get crazy and all it takes is a single lapsed moment. If you can swim I would still suggest controlling your alcohol intake and I would definitely discourage coming to the Sparty after having a few pre-drinks.

One thing I would suggest for the Sparty is to think of different cocktails or make the ones they have tastier.

At night this stunning palace is witness to all of the shenanigans you could imagine. Actually my imagination was not that big to imagine a few of them but these stories are for a girly talk after a few glasses of wine. It is not really surprising that there are mixed reviews about the event. I would say that if you are particularly concerned with cleanliness and cannot get over certain things like plastic cups and spilt drinks in the pool, or people going in without a shower before, and wearing full make-up it might not be the experience for you. For me it was one of the honeymoon highlights.

I would not hesitate to recommend it for all party lovers!

  1. So cool! I didn't know they did that. We went there in December a few years ago and had a lot of fun in the baths. This looks like it would be a lot of fun.

    1. It was really good! I am surprised that tickets were still available a few days just before this event.
