What I love in Iceland?

UK Travel Iga Berry Visit Iceland
As for a travel blogger I am quite in love with a few places and… The land of Ice and Fire is one of them and not only because of the Blue Lagoon! Iceland will always be close to my heart and I could not wait to share what I love about this country plus a few Icelandic tips too. It was a tough one to select only a few things and really I’ve just seen a fraction of Iceland. However finally after editing this post over and over again here I go!

Scenery

First and the most obvious! Way before I ever considered visiting Iceland I wrote an essay for geography class about Vatnajökull. I clearly remember sitting at a wooden table with my mum making dinner as I was turning shiny pages of one of many books we had with the world’s natural wonders. As I was turning the pages I came across expedition photos from Vatnajökull. The concept of a volcano under the glacier was fascinating and so were the images in my book. The clear blue of ice cave made such an impression that I knew that one day I’ll have to visit. Without even knowing it I my started my bucket list in my head.

Scenery is just breath-taking. No matter what: sun, rain, or snow, Iceland always makes me think how perfect nature’s creations are. I am still to discover it fully. The last trip gave me an appetite for more bubbling hot springs, ice caves, black beaches, glaciers, and waterfalls!

Underwater World

The scenery is not only stunning above the sea level but also deep below. What’s is another thing on my bucket list? That’s easy! Exploring underwater worlds and going for a dive in Iceland. If I am lucky I will see the hydrothermal chimneys in Eyjafjörður and explore the Silfra, diving between the North American and Eurasian plates would be insane. It’s like seeing the Earth almost ripped open!

Folklore

Myths and legends are totally my scene lately. Who would not want to read about rock piles for hidden people called the Huldufólk? The tale says that you can see them in specific circumstances and at particular times like New Year’s Eve and Midsummer’s Night. If trolls, elves, and other mythical creatures are your scene or you want to find out the truth and try troll hunting I would think that you’ll love Iceland.

Understanding of Art and Aesthetics

Do you know this moment when you ‘click’ with a stranger? That’s how I feel about my and the Icelandic understanding of art and aesthetics. The cultural scene is buzzing! Of course this is a massive generalisation however I am drawn to Icelandic artists, designers, music, and I would like to think that my Icelandic friends think of me as ‘their person’.

Relaxed

I feel that whilst in Iceland times go slower and people do not rush as much and as often as in the UK. It’s quite refreshing not to feel that I have to do or be anywhere.

In what other country did you find any if the above?

    1. Hi Sophie! Oh yes I can agree however people on the roads in Spain were slightly more nervous in my perception. I guess it's the part of the culture, not far from Italy ;) Joking of course! Love, Iga
