Weekend Away Poland Krakow Travel UK Blog Iga Berry

For the first anniversary I was surprised with a long weekend away in the city of the Wawel Dragon, Krakow in Poland! I have visited Krakow a few times before, it is fair to say that I know my way around quite well. Little did I know, my memory tricked me and Krakow exceeded my expectations in every aspect.

The most beautiful part of Krakow is old city with its little, cobalt streets, tall town houses in a variety of colours, finished with decorative cornices. As we walked around I could not help myself but to peak inside a few buildings. I used to live in a similar building for a little while, so I am naturally curious to see how windy corridors are, how big are staircases, and what floor tiles were used.

The first day around Krakow would not be completed without visiting the Florian Gate and main square where you can find one of the delicious, foodie places that are not as touristy and as a result overpriced with often compromised food quality. If you are in a mood for a filling, homely meal, I would suggest trying groats from the oven. Visit Dobra Nasza Kasza (30-010, Rynek Główny 28, 33-332 Kraków, Poland). If you have problem spotting it look for a goat from the photo above and then search for a bird logo. If you want to try some of the more typical Polish dishes, I would suggest trying Sauerkraut soup (the Tatra Mountains style) with smoked ribs (perfect to warm up if you are visiting Poland during the winter time).

Going back to the old school sight seeing, after a break for lunch, we went to underground museum a few steps away from Dobra Nasza Kasza. Perfect idea especially if you like interactive museums and want to hide indoors for two up to three hours. You can measure yourself and discover measures and weights used in the past.

Next stop was Wawel Royal Castle, it's on the first image. How beautiful this place is! I have said I visited Krakow before but I did not remember how stunning the architecture is! It is a short walk from the main square so you will not be able to miss it! Before we knew it was time to find one of the best, hidden gems in Krakow that I just have to share with you in another post. It's totally different story!

First day in Krakow was intense! But that's what long weekends are for, aren't they?
