Tasting Hawaii in Kuula Poke | Birmimgham

Aloha! If you’ve ever wanted to grab a taste of Hawaii in Birmingham city centre this is it! Birmingham food scene just got an exciting addition. Kuula Poke has opened the doors and I was lucky to be invited to a pre opening event and now it feels like I forgot to leave because I am there so often.
I had a chance to try Poke bowl before in Los Angeles so it was like taking a trip back to one of my favourite summers and trips ever. This casual eatery is perfect to grab a healthy option on the go between one meeting and another or step in for a few minutes to sit down (upstairs you will find a few tables) during your wanderings around the Birmingham.

What is a poke bowl?

Poke bowl has a unique history and tradition that shows that quite often the simplest ideas are the best. Originally poke bowls were prepared by fishermens in Hawaii to reduce food waste and create something delicious. Add to this Japanese influence and we have one of my ‘go to’ food.
As soon as you step through the front door, the boards are tempting you with all the delicious options that you can pick at Kuula Poke. This is definitely a big advantage for me because I prefer when I can see suggestions.

What are the ingredients used in a poke bowl?

Kuula Poke offers a variety of bases, coconut brown rice is my favourite but courgette noodles are also very high up. Fill it up with tuna, salmon, tofu, or chicken then top it up with fruits and vegetables, and add sauce. You are ready to go in less than a few minutes.

I can’t recommend a bowl enough!
